1970's proof set information

All proof coins from the 1970's were minted in San Francisco. The 40% silver half dollar was discontinued in 1970. Starting in 1971, the half was clad. Starting in 1973, the dollar was included in proof sets. From 1973 to 1978, it was the Eisenhower dollar. The dollar was replaced with the Susan B. Anthony dollar in 1979.

During 1975 and 1976, new bicentennial designs were introduced for the dollar, half dollar and quarter. The coins were minted in both years, and carry the dates 1776 and 1976. In 1976, a special 3-piece 40% silver proof set was made with the three bicentennial coins.
